SD Gundam Double X! : Review + WIP!

Yo!

The progress on my Epyon has been on a halt because
im currently searching for the rite spray color for it,
and also waiting for water slide decals for it as
i fucking hate dry transfer.

awwww~ isn't he cute? <3

in the mean time, ive been doing my SD Gundam Double X!
here's my review / thoughts about this kit.

SD Gundam Double X belongs to the G Generation F
line and when u think of G Gen F, the SD look
will always be this short, chubby, no legs and no elbow articulation
whatsoever. So in terms of articulation, it lacks a lot
compared to the newer SD like the Seed, Unicorn and EW line.

Rear view

Pretty much this is the articulation that this SD has..

But, i do like the G Gen F more as it looks
more appropriate as an SD. The baby, midget look.
Newer SD tends to look like...ermm..a 12 year old child?
and kinda more to that gashapon SD line that i cant remember the name.
but hey, it depends on your preferences. :)

the hollow on the other side rifle and shield

So, Double X came with a shield, a beam rifle and also
a backpack with the Twin Satellite Cannon attached.
Strike Freedom? meh, he's a fag compared to Double X. XD
Whats amazing on this kit is the part separation.
Although the colors are not rite, but the separation
do make painting the kit easier.

a close up on the Twin Satellite Cannon deployed~

im a midget, with a gun! and a shield!
and satellite beam cannon!

Now, onto PAINTING!!!

First up is the head. Its all in white!
damn, that sure is convenience for painting.
but kinda disappointing at the same time
as other SD do have a separate yellow part for the VFin.
The fuck Bandai, getting lazy?

so here's the parts for the head. Vfin is made from 2 separate piece.
No.1 is supposed to be yellow and No. 2 and 3 is red.
Spray painting is the way as using markers
will just leaves marker strokes. Never use gundam markers
on a large surface.

For the yellow, im going to use Anchor Chrome Yellow
and for the red, it will be Anchor Red.
Then added some lining to it, highlights the vulcan
on the head with Artline 990xf Silver,
and the head is done.

The backpack.
Doesn't really need much paint application here.
The foil stickers for the "wings" that can open
is kinda...shitty to me. So i colored it with Artline 990xf Gold.
It does make an impressive bling2 effect and better then a sticker. :D
The twin cannons didnt really need much coloring, some grey
on the tips (using Gundam Marker Grey), lining and
i further the effort by painting the sensor. First with
a base of Artline 990xf Silver, then with Sharpie Green.

Heres a tip for you guys. Im sure u guys
must have encountered segments in a part that when
colored will, "spill over" out of the area. The picture
above shows the problem. Theres a simple
solution to this.

Just scrape the excess off with a hobby knife!
as simple as that. :)

Again, the body didnt need much paint.
Just spray paint those white vents to yellow, then add just
a tiny strech of red line using Unipaint Red marker
and it is all done. I used the foil sticker for the
green part as i want it to be the same with the eye
and sensor on the head.

The hand are a bit tricky as it is molded entirely
in dark blue. The middle part is supposed to be white.
In order to achieve that, by using a marker paint only
wasn't going to be enough as it will not cover the
default color completely (+ marker strokes..blerghhh).
So spray painting it is required.

Heres how i mask the hand part. The part the i have
highlighted is actually suppsed to be dark blue,
the same with the default color, but im just lazy to do
masking on that part, so i'll just color it again
later with Gundam Marker Grey.

White is a color that is easy to achieve if the
base color is black, grey or other color that falls
into the same category. The hand only needs one
layer of Anchor Flat White and two layers of
Anchor White to achieve this result.

Wahla! The white looks great.
The next step is to color the highlighted area before
with Gundam Marker Grey and do some
detailing with lining marker and
Artline 990xf Gold.

The waist is simple. Just do some lining,
paint the upper and lower part of the center with
red Unipaint marker, then detailing the
rest of the waist with grey Gundam Marker and
panel lining.

The legs are the favourite part for me on this SD.
I didnt know Double X has that much details
on the feet, with the pistons and all.
So making it shine, is a must. I detailed the part with
Artline 990xf Silver and Gold. Then
colored the oval part with Gundam Marker Yellow.
Lining it a bit and it is all done!

and here is SD Gundam Double X!!
awwww, he's cute! :p

Oh, i forgot to mention that i did some
detailing with the rifle and the shield.
Both of the were first spray painted to white.
The rifle then is detailed with black and grey markers.
Unipaint red marker is then used
for the red part.

He does looks amazing and totally
looks very different from the
original look. and that's the joy
of building an SD. With a little efforts,
it will looks amazing. :)

Here's the comparison shot between the original
and painted.

Well, what can i say about SD Double X?
The part separation, not in color separation
term, makes the painting easier.
usually when i want to paint the VFin
or the body of an SD, a lot of masking is needed.
SD Double X gives u the joy of painting it without
making u go through masking hell.

The details on this SD is also impressive.
For the time of it being released, that is a very
detailed SD. The wings, the foot,
even the head is rich in details.
The only problem i had with this SD
is that the twin cannon is kinda loose.
But that can be fixed with a little superglue. :)

So that's it. I hope this review helps.
 Buy this gem guys,
satisfaction guaranteed!

see ya next time!
